You may experience slight "water weight" so reducing your salt intake can help the first month of taking birth control. Women will often gain weight from things that are not pill related. For example, small changes in diets, snacking more, not working out as much, etc. It's pretty much a myth. So people are feeding a myth, not the pill :P
yeah you have a point like its not proven, however i still feel strongly against them for other reasons.
